Probably best not to share it when you have a big "emotional charge" on it. Much research does show that taking some time to let the strong emotions abate does improve the chances that you can really be heard. Then ask: "Can I share an (or some) observation with you?" Then, using "I" or "my" statements, vs. "you" statements share your observation(s). It seems that the "you" statements usually make it seem like an attack from the receiver's perspective.

However, if you find that you're just continuing to postpone sharing your observations, then you'd better go ahead and share them, however inelegant.Patrick Edwardsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8510309669550073229.post-12583483070778538932010-11-23T12:51:42.481-07:002010-11-23T12:51:42.481-07:00thanks Lion ... brilliant as always! Life is a shopping trip and we have a finite amount of time to fill our time with experiences. It's not about gluttony, though, but about the richest experiences of life in love and making a difference and human growth. How can we leave this world graced as a result of our being here? Ultimately we end up as ashes or dust. How many lives can we touch, how many spirits can we uplift and leave changed? There is a real chance to be consequential, not a consumer of things. That is a real choice.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8510309669550073229.post-23081826030228352712010-09-22T11:50:06.709-06:002010-09-22T11:50:06.709-06:00Bud,

From that perspective, I read this post and think that our desire to be RIGHT!!, along with our opinions and, frankly, our arrogance, arises from the ongoing story in our heads - that narrative we keep telling ourselves about our life, and believing what we're saying! As if we had any idea.

So, as Katie might say, "What would our lives be like if we simply stopped believing our opinions?" However it also took damned hard work and discipline, done during at time of high travel and work demands, and with the help of a capable book coach. Now, as we approach publication, is the hardest part- the detailed proofreading, the fine work, the hard stuff to make it perfect. The easy flow part is over with, now it's the slogging to get it right. For me to have a great product in hand in four weeks' time will cost me a lot of hard work- ultimately worth every bit of time, sweat, blood I put into it. Sure, there is genius in the writing ( I hope so anyway) but the hard labor is in details, and then of course the marketing to get it out there to people. It takes both- in all projects human and animal, there is a price to be paid to stand at the pinnacle and accept accolades. If it were all genius and it all came easily, where would be the triumph in it?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8510309669550073229.post-53850090721961642432010-09-02T08:50:35.080-06:002010-09-02T08:50:35.080-06:00There are great wisdom and courage in accepting th...There are great wisdom and courage in accepting that what we did in the past was done the best we could with what we had at the time. Nothing more, nothing less. To wallow in guilt is to lose the present moment and to waste consciousness, and that is the crime we commit against the present moment, and against growing today. What takes real courage is accepting that all that we have done has brought us to this point of wisdom and perspective, and from this jumping off point we may make even better decisions, and be grateful that we made such decisions in the past so that we don't repeat them. Gratitude is a sacred state, and to be gracious for our lessons learned is wisdom indeed. Our stuff is what allows us to grow, if we let it. Otherwise it's just the miasma that we use as an excuse to beat ourselves up about how awful we are, ruining the perfection of now and the opportunity to make this day, this moment, the one we choose to be made anew.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8510309669550073229.post-38444747570335101682010-08-25T21:45:11.340-06:002010-08-25T21:45:11.340-06:00Jim--I've also heard this expressed as activit...Jim--I've also heard this expressed as activity vs. results.
